Explore a Career as a ChiropractorOne of the emerging disciplines in the health care is chiropractic. The core belief of chiropractors is that the body has an innate ability to heal and that this ability should not be hindered through medicine per se since it can decrease the body’s resistance to injury and disease. They focus on treating disorders that relate to muscular, nervous and skeletal systems including the spine. They implement a holistic approach by encouraging the body’s in-built ability to heal and recuperate through use of natural methods refraining from surgical intervention. Chiropractors usually work in office environments. They evaluate patients’ medical histories and order X-rays where appropriate. They are experts and primarily use their hands to relax and mend the spine. Consequently, they provide much needed relief from different types of pains viz., back, neck and joints without drugs and surgery. Recommendations are also provided to patients for living healthy life styles. Chiropractic programs are offered by several institutions that include Associate’s, Bachelor’s, Master’s and Doctorate degrees. Licensing requirements apply. Course content covers anatomy, chemistry, physiology, clinical practice and techniques of chiropractic medicine. Career prospects are positive with increasing demand for alternative health care and an aging population. Most chiropractors are self-employed. Others are involved in clinical practice in hospitals, group practice, teaching professions and research. The Bureau of Labor Statistics projects that growth will be faster than average of all occupations at 14% through 2016. The median annual earnings of salaried chiropractors in 2006 was $65,220. Argosy University and Kaplan University lead the group with customized programs designed to shape careers through practical approaches in education. Following them are Everest College and Sanford Brown College providing best in class quality education to students. Rasmussen College is second to none and focuses on providing students quality education
